The artistic residence

Every year, the Foundation welcomes African creators in artistic residences. These African artists are specialists in fine arts and they get heavily involved in the dialogue between cultures.
These artistic residences take place three times per year in Joucas in the South of France during three to five weeks between January and June.

The African artists are chosen by the Cultural Council at the suggestions of Yacouba Konaté and Pierre Jaccaud, in charge of the canvassing and the receipt of the application forms.

The artistic residences represent an opportunity to meet not only European artists and artists from the Diaspora but also students in fine arts, pupils who attend the course on decorative art and the local public.

The Foundation takes care of the artist’s stay and accompanies him in his research.
If the artist’s file is retained, the artist in question will be asked to suggest a specific project to the Foundation. This project can be subjected to some changes proposed by the cultural committee.

During his artistic residences, the artist carries out the project for which he has been selected and finally gives it to the Foundation.
During his stay, the artist will be invited to meet the local public, the schools of the region, the press, students in fine arts and pupils of “terminale” whose optional subject is decorative arts...
